Idaho Central Credit Union Arena recognized in the 2022 Architectural Showcase by Athletic Business
We are excited to share that Athletic Business has recognized the Idaho Central Credit Union Arena in the annual 2022 Architectural Showcase, which features the best in newly constructed and renovated athletic facilities.
Inspired by the undulating landscape forms of the Palouse region, the Idaho Central Credit Union (ICCU) Arena was designed as a dramatic gateway to the University of Idaho campus. Accommodating more than 4,000 spectators, the multi-use arena serves as home for the university’s Division I basketball teams, volleyball teams, U of I student events and more. The mass timber design and abundant use of natural light represents a significant break from the traditional steel and concrete sports arena typology.
“Reinterpreting the rolling hills of the Palouse region, the mass-timber design extends and wraps the double-curved roof structure over the arena’s walls to give athletes and spectators the feel of being enveloped in the surrounding landscape, and wrapped in the warmth and feel of wood.”
