Opsis is honored to announce that Portland Public Schools’ Leodis V. McDaniel High School and the Idaho Central Credit Union (ICCU) Arena at University of Idaho were recognized out of 21 projects in the institutional category by the AIA Oregon at the 2022 Oregon Architecture Awards ceremony.
Recognized with an honor award, McDaniel High School stood out to the jury as “a great example of how thoughtful design and inspiring architecture can enhance day-to-day interactions amongst people and improve the lives of many.” The transformational modernization of the 1950s school creates next-generation learning environments for the city’s most culturally diverse student population, encompassing more than 30 spoken languages. The 296,167 sf school features a light-filled Commons and Crossroads atrium at the heart of the school, performing arts, career technical education spaces, athletic facilities and a STEM wing with a flexible lab, greenhouse and teaching garden.
The ICCU Arena at the University of Idaho received a merit award. With an intimate spectator experience, the arena’s open concourse offers an immersive 360-degree experience with views of all areas of the seating bowl and roof structure above. The 4,000-seat multi-use arena showcases the region’s unique characteristics and deep connections to sustainable natural resources. The arena was envisioned to promote innovation in sustainable wood design through collaboration with regional foresters and wood product industry partners.
Thank you to the jurors and congratulations to our clients, the Opsis team and our partners! For more about the winners, visit the AIA Oregon’s website.
