Idaho Central Credit Union Arena recognized by 2021-22 Wood Design & Building Awards
Opsis is honored to announce the Idaho Central Credit Union Arena at University of Idaho has been recognized by Wood Design & Building with a 2021-22 Canadian Wood Council Award for Commercial Building and Sustainable Forestry Initiative – Sponsorship Award. The Wood Design & Building awards program recognizes and celebrates the outstanding work of visionaries around the world who achieve excellence in wood architecture.
A national model for the use of mass timber in long-span sports facilities, the 4,000 seat Idaho Central Credit Union Arena supports the rising prominence of the University’s basketball program and showcases the region’s unique natural materials and landscape. Inspired by the undulating landscape forms of the Palouse region, the ICCU Arena was designed as a dramatic gateway to the University’s campus. The mass timber design and abundant use of natural light represents a significant break from the traditional steel and concreate sports arena typology.
