The design and construction of the long span mass timber at Idaho Central Credit Union (ICCU) Arena was featured in the Architect’s Newspaper latest issue. The article, written by Matthew Marani, highlights our collaborative partnership with StructureCraft and Hoffman Construction. We were challenged by University of Idaho to find ways to integrate local wood products in every aspect of the design. Working closely with the engineers at StructureCraft, the vision of the mass timber, double-curved roof structure and portal frame came to life.
“Each of the beams in these portal frames transfers over 400,000 pounds of load into the frame legs, and the complex timber connections involved push the limits of current timber engineering and design.” – Lucas Epp, Engineering & 3D Manager at StructureCraft
The ICCU Arena is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2021. Opsis Principal in Charge, Alec Holser, hopes, “the new facility will provide a vibrant and intimate fan experience that showcases the region’s unique natural materials and landscape, all while serving as forum for a variety of events to enhance campus student life, including concerts and convocations.”
