Say Hello to Leodis V. McDaniel High
Say goodbye to the Madison High School namesake and hello to Leodis V. McDaniel High. Thanks to a group of PPS students, educators and community stakeholders, the high school is now named after the school’s former Principal. A local leader in public education and beloved member of the community, Leodis McDaniel was one of only a few Black principals in Oregon during the 1980s. We are honored to be a part of the historical transformation and are excited for students to return the modernized high school in fall 2021. As Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero of Portland Public Schools said, students and faculty “will be entering a modernized building that is the first of our high schools to be named for a local hero, a Black Portlander who dedicated his life to public education.”
