Opsis Gives Back

Our volunteer activities extend the meaning and influence of the studio, supporting organizations like AFO’s Architects in Schools program, Depave, With Love and the Oregon Food Bank. Opsis staff serve on the boards of non-profit organizations such as Bag & Baggage, the Design Museum and Architecture Foundation of Oregon. Our commitment to an equitable practice motivated us to create student scholarship programs that advocate for a more diverse student body at the University of Oregon and Portland State University architecture schools.

We support the vitality of non-profit art organizations, providing in-kind design services to Northwest Dance Project, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Portland Opera, Artist Repertory Theatre, Milagro Theatre, among others. Opsis’s 920 Gallery offers an exhibit venue for Portland’s emerging artists—many of whom do not have traditional access to the art community. We have made design services available to the underserved in our community, from the Tibetan Refugee Community to the Unhoused. Our commitment to addressing the houseless crisis includes participating in AIA’s Portland Stitch Design Competition with a first place entry “UnClouded Vision,” teaching the University of Oregon Design Studio “Campus of Hope” and designing the Oregon Harbor of Hope Navigation Center—a prototype for temporary, low-barrier shelters.

We have volunteered and donated to Bikes for Schools, ACE Mentorship Project, DePave Portland, With Love, Oregon Food Bank, AFO’s Architects in Schools program, Milagro Theatre, Neighborhood House and Immigrant, Refugee Community Organization (IRCO) and work with International Student Groups for Portland Public Schools.

Our most recent community-service design work is the Oregon Harbor of Hope Navigation Center, where Opsis worked with Transition Projects on a temporary, low-barrier shelter offering resources to help people living on the streets stabilize their lives, access essential support services and secure housing.
