The dramatic transformation of Hood River Valley High School creates an updated, innovative facility suited to 21st century learners.
Size: 41,000 sf Location: Hood River, OR
The Hood River Valley High School faced rapidly increasing enrollment and needed to update its aging, dated facilities. Faced with a tight schedule and limited budget, Opsis collaborated with the facilities director and school staff to develop programming and designs that maximized educational value and addressed the needs of today’s students.
The project encompassed five different projects spread over two bond cycles. The 16,000 sf new construction Science Wing created unique learning spaces that combine both class and lab activities in one room allowing students to move back and forth between learning modalities.
Opsis collaborated with a solar consultant, the Energy Trust of Oregon, and private entities to take advantage of pass-through tax credits that funded solar panels on the addition’s south-facing roof of the science wing.
Other additions and renovations included a new secure main entry / reception lobby, new music wing, and 25,000 of general renovations including all new roofs, security, life safety and HVAC improvements.
