Opsis was selected through a national architectural solicitation process to design the University and Regional Art Museum.
Size: 35,000 sf Location: Pullman, WA
Located within the campus core, the museum occupies a significant and high profile site.
Looking beyond the campus gothic architecture, the museum seeks a regionally inspired expression that captures the qualities of place rooted in the undulating Palouse landscape, columnar basalt crags and elemental metal farm buildings as distinct markers in the landscape.
The L-shaped plan, is expressed as a monolithic basalt outcropping that inscribes a collection of distinct gallery spaces and central sculpture court within the landscape surround.
Four art galleries of various shapes and heights are sheathed in galvalume, evoking the character of an agrarian farm compound.
