The Vault Theater re-envisions a 1948 branch bank building into a modern and intimate performing arts venue that is the new home for Bag & Baggage, an accomplished regional theater company based in Hillsboro.

The new theater features a highly adaptable black box space that integrates an innovative video-based production format. The Opsis design inserts a plywood-clad black box theater within the existing volume as a discrete object. Concealed plywood doors open to the lobby and adjoining courtyard to transform the theater into a public market, visual arts gallery or events space.
Mid-century modern features, including the bank vault and wood-decked ceiling, are retained as artifacts and featured in the design. A new mezzanine level incorporates sound and light booths, offices, restrooms, lounge and storage.
Dressing rooms, prop storage, and support spaces are situated in the basement. The adjacent outdoor area offers a flexible gathering space to be used as an event or theatrical performance space.
