CA Specialist

We are currently looking for a Senior level Architect with a focus on Construction Administration…a team member with leadership potential who is interested in opportunities for growth within our firm. Our ideal candidate possesses a strong design sensibility, interest in and natural affinity for the unique responsibilities required of an Architect specializing in CA. This position requires someone who represents the firm, understands the client’s needs and advocates on behalf of both. The CA Specialist must possess basic skills of a Sr. Project Architect (documentation, coordination, communication, budgeting, management, etc.) and values, at the highest level, the attentive care of and consideration for our clients. Of equal importance, this role requires the ability to work autonomously in the field adhering to the design intent, interpreting the documents, assisting the builder and carrying out all responsibilities of the Architect during Construction Administration. This position requires exceptional communication and organizational skills, a depth of experience collaborating with clients and contractors and a solid measure of confidence working with both client and contractor.

Construction Phase Requirements:

  • Read, understand and operate within the responsibilities as laid out in the Prime Contract.
  • Understand Design intent and generating project concepts.
  • Attendance at regularly scheduled OAC meetings (typically weekly).
  • Meet regularly with Principal-in-Charge to review progress and provide updates.
  • Monitor construction progress as it relates to Opsis’s available CA fee and promptly notify Leadership of any deviations.
  • Perform on-site observations and document results relative to the quantity and quality of the contractor’s performance.
  • Review and evaluate RFIs and submittals. Bring questions or concerns to the attention of design team members who will address problems and suggest resolutions.
  • Assist in preparing sketches or drawing revisions as needed to expedite responses to RFIs. Coordinate directly with consultants to expedite RFI responses and submittal reviews.
  • Monitor construction changes, shop drawings, samples, product data and/or other submissions from the contractor.
  • Review submittals / shop drawings, reject work that does not conform to the construction documents, and record the issues with a corrective action report or non-conforming work notice.
  • Attend client meetings and/or construction coordination meetings as firm’s project representative.
  • Engage in a collaborative manner with construction manager, contractors, inspectors, A/E design team and owner towards meeting delivery goals.
  • Execute all CA communication, mechanisms and documents as typically required in the field including but not limited to Meeting Minutes, Field Reports, RFI, Submittals, ASI, Applications for Payment, ASR, etc.

Requirements include:

  • Professional Architect License (CDT, CCCA, and LEED accreditation preferred).
  • Minimum of 12 years architectural project experience preferred, including technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with Procore, CMiC, or other construction management software preferred.
  • Previous construction administration experience overseeing commercial projects (utilizing concrete, steel, required; experience with technically complex facilities, full buildings and Advanced Timber Technologies (CLT, Mass Timber, etc.) preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications and how they work together.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to clients, project team and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively present information clearly and in a timely manner.
  • Desire and ability to lead projects in the field with a degree of independence commensurate with the size and complexity of the project.
