Sanchez and Cambier recognized as 2018 DJC Women of Vision honorees

August 28, 2018 – Portland, Ore. – The Daily Journal of Commerce has selected Pat Sanchez and Jennie Cambier as 2018 Women of Vision award winners. Both women were nominated by peers in the industry. The DJC’s Women of Vision is an educational and awards program that supports the women who are shaping our built environment with their leadership, mentoring efforts, community involvement and the promotion of industry diversity.

Pat Sanchez, Principal, brings over 30 years of experience in architectural practice management and has dedicated her career to fostering equity, diversity and inclusion in the architectural industry. Pat serves as a mentor to women and emerging professionals at Opsis, helping staff navigate the complexities of project management, client relationships and career development activities. Serving as both a sounding board and an advocate, Pat’s mentees gain guidance on how to advocate for themselves, and a partner that simultaneously advocates on their behalf at the leadership level of the firm. Pat’s mentees are provided a unique window on the business practices that are foundational to successful firm operation; sharing this knowledge provides mentorship in firm management, an often-overlooked component of architectural training.
Pat has advocated for paid parental leave and Opsis’ participation in International Living Future Institute’s JUST program, both of which contribute to Opsis’ employee-friendly culture. Pat also volunteers on the American Institute of Architect’s (AIA) Portland chapter Committee on Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, which organizes the annual ForWARD “Future Vision” conference focused on equity in the practice of architecture.

Jennie Cambier, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, Associate Principal, has been instrumental in shaping the culture of Opsis over her 13 years with the firm. She has led the professional education, equity and diversity programs and manages the firm’s overall project staffing. Jennie is also serving on the 2018 AIA Portland Board of Directors. Jennie was nominated for the award by Opsis staff member Nada Maani, who noted her ability to provide a team environment where all voices are welcome and her continued support of learning opportunities for younger staff on her team. “Jennie is an inspiration for many young women who face daily challenges in a male-dominated environment and culture. She leads by example with confidence, skill and intelligence in a field where good examples of leadership are difficult to find,” noted Maani.
